NAIROBI, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese telecommunications company Huawei has unveiled a new smartwatch in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, targeting urban consumers seeking to enhance their health and fitness.

The launch event on Thursday, attended by senior industry executives, fitness enthusiasts, innovators, and content creators, showcased the Huawei Watch GT6 and the TXZ Tablet, underscoring rising demand for smart wearables in Kenya and across East Africa.

Wilfred Odera, marketing manager for devices at Huawei Kenya, said the GT6 incorporates advanced features tailored for high-intensity sports such as swimming, cycling, and running.

"The device is ideal for speed management, heartbeat analysis, and can also provide indicators of emotional well-being. Its most distinctive feature is that it is pro-health and pro-sports," Odera said.

He added that the GT6 is primarily aimed at middle- and high-income consumers, noting that the outlook for Kenya's wearables market remains strong as more people adopt health-conscious lifestyles.

According to Odera, Huawei's wearable devices are gaining traction in Kenya, particularly among private-sector employees and entrepreneurs seeking insights into sleep quality and calorie management.
